Getting there for visitors from outside Santa Cruz:
- If coming from Northern California:
- Do whatever it takes to get on freeway 880 Southbound toward San Jose.
- Continue going South after 880 turns into 17.
- Drive carefully on 17 as it goes up and over the Santa Cruz Mountains. The road is windy and people like to drive too fast on it.
- Exit onto highway 1 southbound toward Monterey.
- Exit at Soquel Ave. Turn right onto Soquel Avenue at the end of the offramp then right again onto Soquel Drive.
- If coming from Southern California:
- Do whatever it takes to get on Highway 1 Northbound toward Santa Cruz.
- Exit at Soquel Ave. Go straight at the end of the offramp.
- Then turn right onto Soquel Drive.
- Continue east on Soquel Drive. Turn right onto Chanticleer Avenue. (The Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center is there and a sign to Grey Bears Recycling.)
- Follow Chanticleer all the way to the end. Turn left. The gym is the building in front of you.
- Plenty of free parking in front of the gym.
Flying there:
- Fly to San Jose airport (SJC)
- Follow signs to 880 southbound toward Santa Cruz
- Then follow directions above as if coming from Northern California
Getting there from UCSC campus by SC Metro bus:
- Take #10 High Street bus from campus. (It leaves Science Hill at
:13 and :43 after each hour on weekdays; :41 past each hour on weekends.)
- Get off at "Bookshop Santa Cruz" stop.
- After getting off the bus, walk in the same direction the bus is headed to the next intersection.
- Turn left and cross both streets. Head toward Wells Fargo Bank on River St.
- At the bus stop in front of Wells Fargo, wait for the #71 bus and get on it.
- Get off the #71 bus at Sutter Maternity stop. Turn right and walk on Chaticleer Ave to it's end. Turn left. The gym is the building in front of you.
Getting there from UCSC campus by bike:
- Go to campus main entrance at Bay and High. Turn left on High St.
- Go downhill all the way to the end of High St.
- There are 2 bike paths at the end of High St. Take the one on the right up a spiral ramp to a pedestrian bridge that crosses Highway 1. .
- At the bottom of the ramp on the other side go right still on High Street toward Holy Cross Chruch.
- Take the first right onto Sylvar St.
- Turn left onto Mission St.
- Follow Mission St across the River Street Bridge where its name changes to Water St.
- Turn right onto Seabright Ave.
- Turn left onto Soquel Ave. It changes name to Soquel Drive as you cross highway 1
- Continue east on Soquel Drive. Turn right onto Chanticleer. (The Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center is there and a sign to Grey Bears Recycling.)
- Follow Chanticleer all the way to the end. Turn left. The gym is the building in front of you.
Getting there from UCSC campus by car:
- Go to campus main entrance at Bay and High. Turn left on High St.
- Head east on High St.
- Turn right at Storey St.
- Turn left at King St.
- Slight left at Mission St.
- Follow Mission St across the River Street Bridge where its name changes to Water St.
- Turn right onto Seabright Ave.
- Turn left onto Soquel Ave.
- Continue east on Soquel Ave. Turn right onto Chanticleer. (The Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center is there and a sign to Grey Bears Recycling.)
- Follow Chanticleer all the way to the end. Turn left. The gym is the building in front of you.
